Today, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned almost five decades of settled law giving people the right to make their own decisions around their reproductive health. This decision will significantly set back reproductive justice and human rights across our country, and will have devastating impacts for young women, girls and gender-expansive young people–particularly those of color–who already face the steepest barriers to sex education, reproductive health access and reproductive care.
Every girl, young woman and gender-expansive young person deserves access to high-quality sexual and reproductive health services. And every young person deserves the ability to make decisions about their family and their future. We know this decision will not impact the lives of girls, young women and young people in isolation; their ability to make decisions about their health will have consequences on their ability to lead, thrive and be economically secure.
As we continue our work to advocate for gender justice, we know that reproductive justice and health is critical. We join organizations, movement leaders and advocates across the country in a commitment to fight back against this unprecedented attack on human rights.
